These recommendations aim to:
(1) reduce patient anxiety, healthcare provider burden, and costs of unnecessary evaluation of enlarged nodes in the setting of recent COVID 19 vaccination and
(2) avoid delay in vaccination and recommended breast imaging for the best standard of care during the pandemic.

Over 28 million elective surgeries across the globe could be cancelled as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic – leading to patients facing a lengthy wait for their health issues to be resolved, a new study reveals.
The CovidSurg Collaborative has projected that, based on a 12-week period of peak disruption to hospital services due to COVID-19, 28.4 million elective surgeries worldwide are at risk of cancellation or postponement in 2020.

As Malaysia moves into the fourth phase of the Movement Control Order (MCO), the impact of earlier restrictions is starting to be seen. While new cases continue to emerge, the curve appears to be flattening as hoped. Nevertheless, with the expansion of approved services, and relaxation of some preventive measures, we must remain vigilant, should a rebound occur.

Following the escalation of COVID-19 cases in Malaysia, healthcare services, including surgery, are under increased strain. This is reflected in the morbidity and mortality affecting the healthcare workers.

The Malaysian Government has extended the Movement Control Order to 12th May 2020 nationwide pertaining to the Covid-19 pandemic in Malaysia. The office of the College will be closed during this period and the staff will be working from home.

A Tribute to a Pioneer in Liver Surgery
Dato' Dr M Balasegaram, often referred to as 'Prof Bala', passed away on 5th May 2014 at the age of 85. A memorial lecture was held at the Lecture Theatre of the state-of-the-art Advanced Surgical Skills Centre, UKM Medical Centre, Kuala Lumpur on 23rd November 2014 to honor his immense contributions to the development of gastrointestinal surgery in the country. A strict disciplinarian with rigorous standards, he groomed many of top surgeons. Dr Balasegaram is best noted for his pioneering work in liver surgery. He researched and added more information to the understanding of the anatomy of the liver, and subsequently simplified liver surgery with his new specially designed liver instruments.
